Gerald DeGroot was a postdoctoral candidate at the University of Michigan in 1970. Along with Karen DeGroot, he created the Dharma Initiative in an effort to form a communal research environment for studies of meteorology, psychology, parapsychology, zoology, electromagnetism and utopian societies.
