The brothers Gracchi rose to prominance by championing populus legislation and reforms. However, they lived about three hundred years before the rule of Marcus Aurelius and Commodus. Also, they were not respected by other Senators, but rather distained for their disregard for the established process of government. They were both killed while in office. Tiberius was actually killed by other Senators, while Gaius was killed while leading a populist riot.
