One day when John Locke was at work, Emily turned up. Locke found out that she was his biological mother. She tells him that she had to give him up for adoption because she wasn't able to give him the care he needed. After Cooper befriends Locke and suckers Locke into giving him one of his kidneys, it is Emily who comes to Locke in the hospital. She explains that she needed money and Cooper came to her with a plan. She said Cooper had wanted Locke to offer his kidney on his own.
