Animated Adaptations:
Because of the scope of J.R.R. Tolkien's world, live action film adaptations have been all but impossible until only recently with the advances in special and visual effects. In the late 1970's there were attempts at bringing the story to the big screen through animation. They were met mostly with disappointment.
