Terry Goodkind

Wizard's First Rule
Hardcover

Wizard's First Rule marks Terry Goodkind's first entrance into fantasy and is the first book of The Sword of Truth series. I found it to be an entertaining, although somewhat disturbing read. If you like the darker side of fantasy, then I would say you would enjoy this book. It begins to explore the netherworld ties of magic which I would guess are explored in more detail in the later books of the series. It has a few predictable plot twists, but was still mostly a smooth read.

As a first book, it didn't drag me in like The Eye of the World did for Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Series, but rather was more self-contained, with a seemingly complete victory for good at the end of the book. It was a long and enjoyable read partly because I read it while travelling, but I have yet to continue on with the second book in the series.
