Battlestar Galactica: TOS (1978)

"There are those who believe that life here began out there. Far across the universe. With tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians or the Toltecs or the Mayans that they may have been the architects of the Great Pyramids or the lost civilizations of Lemuria or Atlantis. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive somewhere beyond the heavens."

"Fleeing from the Cylon Tyranny, the last Battlestar, Galactica, leads a rag-tag fugitive fleet on a lonely quest. A shining planet, known as Earth."

Television tried to capitalize on the Star Wars phenomenon and Battlestar Galactica was created. Unfortunately, the ratings were not good enough to offset the most expensive television series produced at the time. Thus, after one season, it was cancelled. However, the show's replacement fared even worse and after a year, the network decided to bring it back on a cheaper budget. Most of the original cast had moved on and had no desire to return to a stripped down version and apparently neither did the audience. The universally awful Galactica 1980 lasted ten episodes.

Battlestar Galactica: The Reimagined Series (2004)

"The Cylons were created by man.
They Rebelled.

They look and feel Human.

A reimagined update of the original series. Most of the main characters are there, but with significant changes. The Cylons are there too, and athey seem to be holding all the cards. The show has a loose story arc and is character driven with the science fiction aspects of the show not always the driving force of the story. It is a vast improvment over the original series even as it has utilized storylines from the original.
