Diane was ailing in the hospital, so Kate came back to see her. With her childhood loveTom's, help, Kate got into the hospital. However, when Diane saw Kate, she got upset and Kate started running which came at a grave cost for Tom.
2.9 - "What Kate Did"
Diane works at a diner and has stayed with Wayne, who is abusive towards her. Kate takes out an insurance policy in her name for Wayne in an effort to provide for her after she gets rid of Wayne. However, Kate's mother "gives her up" to the authorities.
