Bio
Tchéky Karyo was born in Istabul, Turkey in 1953, but he grew up in Paris, France. He studied drama at the Cyrano Theatre and became a member of the Daniel Sorano Company. He next joined the National Theatre of Strasbourg, starring in classical works and contemporary plays. Karyo was nominated for a Cesar award for one of his first roles in French cinema in La Balance.

Following his role in the French film La Femme Nikita (which inspired a Hollywood remake and a television series), Karyo began to steadily work in Hollywood throughout the 1990's starting with A Grande Arte in 1991. He appeared in 1492: Conquest of Paradise in 1992, the critically-acclaimed HBO television movie And the Band Played On in 1993, and the Disney movie Operation Dumbo Drop in 1995.

Karyo's next film Bad Boys with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence turned into a box office hit. He followed that with a cameo in Pierce Brosnan's first turn as James Bond in Goldeneye. He showed his comedic talents as Meg Ryan's ex-boyfriend in Addicted to Love. He also appeared in Director Luc Besson's The Messenger, the Mel Gibson film The Patriot, Jet Li's Kiss of the Dragon and with Hilary Swank and Aaron Eckhard in The Core. In the last decade, Karyo has largely returned to acting in French cinema.
