Virgil Earp

Portrayed by: Sam Elliott

Suggested by: Virgil Earp

Virgil Earp arrives in Tombstone with his youngest brother Morgan Earp after his younger brother Wyatt had asked them to come to Tombstone so they could go into private business together, leaving the thankless and low-paying task of law enforcement behind. However, it doesn't take long for the lawlessness of the town to bother Virgil and following the controversial shooting death of U.S. Marshal Fred White while he was trying to disarm a drunken Curly Bill Brocius, Virgil becomes Marshal. He soon enlists Morgan as a deputy much to the disgust of Wyatt.

After the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, the Cowboys target the Earps and one stormy night, they first attack the Earp women, then shoot Virgil in the arm and finally fatally shoot Morgan in the back. As a result of the shooting Virgil loses the use of his arm. He soon leaves town with Morgan's body, while Wyatt and Doc Holliday remain behind to exact revenge on the Cowboys.
