August 16 - Lt. General Cornwallis defeats Maj. General Gates at Camden, South Carolina.

October 7 - Maj. Patrick Ferguson is defeated at the Battle of King's Mountain, South Carolina.

December 3 - Maj. General Nathanael Greene replaces Maj. General Horatio Gates as Commander of the Continental Southern Department.

January 17 - Brig. General Morgan defeats Lt. Colonel Tarleton at Cowpens, South Carolina.

March 15 - Lt. General Cornwallis defeats Maj. General Greene at Guilford Courthouse, NC.

May 20 - Lt. General Charles Cornwallis arrives at Petersburg, Virginia.

May 22 - General Washington meets with Lt. General Rochambeau at Wethersfield, Connecticut.

June 4 - Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton raids Charlottesville, Virginia.

June 5 - Lt. Colonel John Simcoe raids Point of Fork, Virginia.

June 10 - Brig. General Wayne arrives with 1,000 reinforcements for the Marquis de Lafayette.

June 16 - Lt. General Charles Cornwallis reaches Richmond, Virginia.

June 26 - Lt. Colonel John Simcoe is surprised by Colonel Richard Butler at Spencer's Tavern.

July 6 - Lt. General Cornwallis skirmishes with Brig. General Wayne at Green Spring, Virginia.

July 7 - Lt. General Cornwallis crosses the James River.

July 8 - Lt. General Cornwallis receives orders from Lt. General Henry Clinton to send 3,000 men to Philadelphia.

July 9 - Lt. General Cornwallis detaches Lt. Colonel Tarleton to destroy supplies and stores.

July 12 - Lt. General Cornwallis receives orders from Lt. General Henry Clinton to send 3,000 men to New York.

July 20 - Lt. General Cornwallis receives orders from Lt. General Clinton to establish a fort at Old Point Comfort.
