Ten years after directing Gunfight
at the O.K. Corral, John Sturges returned to Tombstone with Hour
of the Gun. While Gunfight ended with the shootout at the
O.K. Corral, this film begins with that showdown. directed version of Wyatt
Earp and Doc Holliday. While Sturges had takes liberties with Gunfight,
he stayed truer to history for at least the first part of this film. After that,
he invents a completely fictional ending between Wyatt, Doc and Ike Clanton,
much like Tombstone's fictional ending with Wyatt,
Doc
and Johnny
Ringo.
