Bill the Pony

In The Fellowship of the Ring:
Bill the Pony is acquired in Bree to help carry gear. Sam grows fond of the pony and Bill joins the Fellowship when they leave Rivendell. At the Hollin Gate outside Moria, Bill is let go to take care of himself because he cannot travel under the mountains. He eventually makes his way back to Rivendell.
