Samwise Gamgee In The Return of the King:

Frodo, Sam and Gollum are making their way through Ithilien. Frodo is worn out from carrying the Ring. When they reach the gates of Minas Morgul, Frodo is drawn to the city. Sam and Gollum grab him and get him out of sight just before an Orc army marches out. On the Winding Stair, Gollum manages to plant doubt in Frodo's mind about Sam. When they stop to rest, Gollum sets up Sam. Frodo then sends Sam away and follows Gollum. Sam makes his way down the Winding Stair until he finds the lembas that Gollum had accused him of eating. He realizes that Gollum had deliberately set it up, so that Frodo would send him away.

Sam reaches Frodo after Shelob has pricked him, but drives her off before she can bring Frodo into her Lair. Sam hears someone coming and hides. It is a number of Orcs who talk amongst themselves and say that Frodo is not dead. They then take him into the Tower of Cirith Ungol. Sam decides to go in after Frodo and finds that the Orcs have killed each other in a fight. Just as Frodo is about to be killed by Gorbag, Sam arrives and saves him. Frodo is distraught because the Ring has been taken, but Sam shows that he has it. Frodo gets upset and Sam returns it to him. They then disguise themselves as Orcs and make their way across the Plains of Gorgoroth.

The weight of the Ring has sapped Frodo's strength so Sam carries him up toward the entrance to the Cracks of Mt. Doom. As they get nearer, Gollum turns up and attacks them. They fend him off and make it to where Frodo can throw the Ring away. However, the Ring finally takes Frodo and he claims it for his own. Gollum reappears, stuns Sam and attacks Frodo. He bites off Frodo's finger and reclaims the Ring as he falls into the lava river below. Sam saves Frodo from falling in. They then wait to die as the mountain disintegrates around them, but Gandalf arrives with the Eagles.

Sam and Frodo attends Aragorn's coronation as King of Gondor before returning to The Shire. After a few years, Gandalf arrives and takes the Hobbits to the Grey Havens where Frodo and Bilbo sail into the West with the other Ringbearers. Sam returns to The Shire to his familythat he has started with Rosie.
