February 14 - Battle of Kettle Creek, Georgia.
Andrew Pickens and Elijah Clarke defeat North Carolina Tories.

February 25 - George Rogers Clark captures Vincennes, Illinois Country (now Indiana).

May 11 - Maj. General Benjamin Lincoln occupies Augusta, Georgia.

June 23 - Spain declares war on Great Britain.

July 16 - Battle of Stony Point, New York.

July 21 - Battle of Minisink, New York.

August 29 - Battle of Newtown, New York

September 16-October 10 - Second Battle of Savannah, Georgia.
Combined force under Maj. General Benjamin Lincoln and French Admiral D'Estaing lay siege to Savannah. They fail to recapture the city.

September 21 - Battle of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Spanish Governor of Louisiana Don Bernardo de Galvez captures Baton Rouge and, by provision of surrender, Natchez, Mississippi from the British.

October 9 - Battle of Savannah, Georgia.
