Faramir leads a raid on the Haradrim near the Ithilien Camp of Frodo and Sam. He then captures them and takes them to Henneth Annûn where he interrogates them. He forces Frodo to go down to the Forbidden Pool and bait Gollum. In spite of their pleas, he then decides to take them to Osgiliath. After the attack by the Nazgûl, he finally decides to release them. He stays to oversee the city's defense. It is overrun and he is forced to flee across the Pelennor Fields to Minas Tirith. He visits the High Court of his father, Denethor, who accuses him of cowardice. He leads an attempt to retake Osgiliath, but is instead severely wounded. His father takes him to the Tombs of the Stewards where he is planning to burn them alive, but Gandalf and Pippin save him. He is last seen near the White Tree standing next to Eowyn at Aragorn's coronation.
