With the release of the seventh season of The Golden Girls on DVD, the whole series is now available. Though the premise of four mature women living in the retirement haven of Florida sounds mundane, the show featured a great cast with great chemistry. The content was far from mundane and the topics were often very adult and/or controversial. Just as Bea Arthur's series Maude had not shied away from controversial topics, neither did The Golden Girls. However, not every episode had overt policial messages. Many episodes took the straightforward sitcom storylines built around the four disparate lead characters and allowed the four stars to work their comedic timing and chemistry. The result was a show that lives on in reruns and is rarely feels dated more than two decades after it debuted.
