Saruman In The Two Towers:
Saruman has continued to build his army. He needs more fuel for his war machine and begins cutting down the outlying trees of the nearby forest of Fangorn. He has also now turned against the Men of the Kingdom of Rohan. He is encouraging the Wild Men (Dunlendings) to carry out raids on the Westfold. Gandalf leads Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas to Edoras and names Gríma Wormtongue, the advisor to King Théoden, as a spy of Saruman. Gandalf then breaks Saruman's spell over King Théoden.
After Gríma Wormtongue is driven out of Edoras, he comes to Isengard and reports to Saruman that King Théoden will probably evacuate the city and go to Helm's Deep, a mountain stronghold that he is sure is impenetrable. Saruman shows him a massive army of Uruk-hai, which he sends to wipe out the Rohirrim. Instead, the army is wiped out at Helm's Deep when Gandalf and Éomer arrive with a force of horsed Rohirrim. Meanwhile, Merry and Pippin lead Treebeard to where Fangorn Forest has been cut down. The Ents then attack Isengard washing away Saruman's machines of war. He is left trapped in the Tower of Orthanc with Gríma Wormtongue.
