The Lord of the Rings Middle Earth Places: Edoras
Edoras:

Edoras is the mountaintop capital of Rohan. The Golden Hall of the King is located at the highest point of the city. In recent years, King Théoden has begun failing thanks to the deceits of his advisor Gríma Wormtongue and Edoras has done likewise. It has become bleak and cold. After Gandalf breaks Saruman's spell, the King banishes Gríma Wormtongue and orders the city evacuated to Helm's Deep.
After the victory at Helm's Deep, the Rohirrim return to Edoras and celebrate. After Pippin looks into the Palantir and his mind is held by Sauron, Gandalf learns that Sauron plans to move against Gondor. He and Pippin leave. From outside the Golden Hall, Aragorn sees the Beacons of Gondor have been lit. He convinces King Théoden to ride to Gondor's aid. Just before the Rohirrim ride for Dunharrow, Merry pledges himself to Théoden's service.
