Théoden rules from the Golden Hall where Gandalf breaks Saruman's hold on him before he banishes Gríma. He then evacuates his people to Helm's Deep where they are nearly overwhelmed by Saruman's Uruk-hai before Gandalf arrives with Éomer and a force of Rohirrim. He then rides with the others to Isengard, then back to Edoras. After the Beacons of Gondor are lit calling for aid, he rides to Dunharrow. He leads the Rohirrim on the Pelennor Fields before he is mortally wounded by the Fell Beast of the Witchking.
