Théoden In The Return of the King:
King Théoden rides with Gandalf and Aragorn to Isengard, where he learns that Treebeard and the Ents have defeated Saruman and trapped he and Gríma Wormtongue in the Tower of Orthanc. They then return to Edoras where Théoden hosts a celebration for the victory at Helm's Deep. He admits that the victory was Aragorn's, not his.

After the Beacons of Gondor are lit, Théoden calls for the Rohirrim to come assemble at Dunharrow. While there, Elrond comes to speak to Aragorn. When Aragorn sets off for the Paths of the Dead, the other Rohirrim criticize him for leaving, but Théoden defends him as doing what he needs to do.

As the Rohirrim ready to leave for Gondor, Théoden apologizes to Eowyn for how he has treated her and then asks her to remain behind and rule the Rohirrim. He then also tells Merry that he must stay behind. He leads the Rohirrim into battle at Pelennor Fields and they rout the Orcs. However, he is somewhat disheartened when the Haradrim arrive with the Oliphaunts. The Rohirrim finally figure out how to take down the Oliphaunts, but the Witchking attacks Théoden. The Fell Beast kills Théoden's horse and thus severely wounding him. As the Witchking comes to finish him off, Eowyn steps in and kills the Fell Beast. Merry then wounds the Witchking and Eowyn kills him. Théoden and Eowyn share a quiet moment before he dies.
