Commander William Adama is the commander of the Galactica, which is the last surviving Battlestar after the Cylon attack. Adama is the father of Captain Lee Adama. Adama also has a special relationship with Viper pilot Lieutenant Kara Thrace. Thrace had been engaged to his younger son, Zak Adama, when he was killed in a flight accident. Zak's death drove a wedge between William and his son, Lee, a rift that still remains. Adama has a strong relationship with his XO, Colonel Saul Tigh, which goes back to when they both had left the fleet. Adama got back in and then brought Tigh back in. Adama's goal is to keep the suvival fleet together and find a suitable planet for the human race to rebuild. He has had to learn to work with civilian President Laura Roslin.
