The Lord of the Rings Middle Earth Places: Bridge of Khazad-dûm
Bridge of Khazad-dûm:
- Appears in The Fellowship of the Ring
After fighting off an Orc attack near Balin's Tomb, the Fellowship fled through Dwarrowdelf. The Orcs nearly had them and then the Orcs fled as a greater evil approached. As the Fellowship neared the bridge, the evil was revealed to be a Balrog.
Gandalf turned to face the Balrog as the rest of the Fellowship passed over to the other side. They battle and then Gandalf cracks the bridge, sending the Balrog tumbling into the chasm. However, the Balrog's whip comes out of the chasm, grabs Gandalf and pulled him into the chasm as well. The remainder of the Fellowship then fled out of the eastern gate of Moria.
