Gimli attends the Council of Elrond. He tries to destory the One Ring. After Frodo volunteers to take the Ring to Mt. Doom, Gimli volunteers to join him. As the Fellowship heads south, Gimli lobbies for them to travel through Moria. Gandalf instead leads them to the Pass of Caradhras, but they are turned back. Frodo then chooses the way through Moria. They discover Balin's Tomb and are attacked by Orcs and a Cave Troll and then Gandalf falls with the Balrog at the Bridge of Khazad-dûm. The Fellowship then goes to Lothlórien and Gimli is suscipious of the Elves, but he becomes taken with Lady Galadriel. He then reluctantly rides in a boat down the River Anduin. He and Legolas run to backup Aragorn at Amon Hen when the Uruk-hai attack. They then join Aragorn in going to rescue Merry and Pippin.
