Sam works as Frodo's gardener at Bag End in Hobbiton in The Shire. When Gandalf catches him eavesdropping, he tells Sam to god with Frodo. When Frodo and he set out, they are joined by Merry and Pippin in Farmer Maggot's Fields. The Hobbits just reach the Buckleberry Ferry before the Nazgûl. They then get to Bree and go to the Prancing Pony to meet Gandalf. Gandalf is not there, but they meet Strider. He leads them to Weathertop, where Frodo is wounded. Arwen finds them near the Troll Camp and brings Frodo to Rivendell.

asldjf Sam finds that Frodo recovers at Rivendell. He interrupts the Council of Elrond after Frodo volunteers to take the Ring of Power to Mt. Doom. Gandalf leads the Fellowship to the Pass of Caradhras, but they are turned back. Frodo then chooses the way through Moria. He along with the remainder of the Fellowship then finds rest at Lothlórien. The Fellowship then sails down the River Anduin to Parth Galen. While the Uruk-hai attack the Fellowship at Amon Hen, Sam realizes that Frodo has decided to leave the Fellowship behind, but Sam reaches the boats in time to go with Frodo.
